Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The significant increase in CO2 emission, from 280 ppm in 1760 to 410 ppm in 2020, has become a serious global warming problem, resulting in a series of severe climate and environmental changes. Emissions of CO2 are mainly attributed to fossil fuel consumption; in particular, the power generation sector emits the most CO2, followed by industrial and transportation vehicles. Therefore, there is an urgent requirement for CO2 reduction, which is recognized by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and the introduction of relevant policies and regulations.
CO2 capture and conversion represent a more sustainable process that can partially close the carbon cycle. It is attractive to store the excess and uncertain supply of energy from renewable sources to stable chemical energy (i.e., methane, syngas, or liquid chemicals). There are many effective CO2 utilization routes, including thermal catalysis, photocatalysis, electronic catalysis, plasma catalysis, etc. Although considerable progress has been made, more extensive and in-depth research is still needed to achieve industrialization.
This Special Issue on “Process of CO2 Capture and Conversion” seeks high-quality reviews and research works that involve CO2 capture and catalytic conversion processes. Topics include, but are not limited to:
- Pre-combustion carbon capture;
- Post-combustion carbon capture;
- Oxy-fuel combustion;
- Direct air capture (DAC);
- Biological carbon capture;
- Chemical looping;
- Calcium looping;

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Processes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
