Dear Colleagues,
Energy storage technology (EST), which stores energy through devices or physical media, is absolutely necessary to achieve the sustainable utilization of energy. The EST can be regarded as one effective solution to overcome the intermission during utilizing sustainable energy. Thermal energy storage (TES) is one kind of energy storage to tackle the problems in real industrial applications, and high-efficient and cost-effective TES technologies are especially significant to reduce or eliminate carbon emissions in the nowadays market.
The TES topic has been extensively studied over the past years to propose productive methods for sustainable utilization of energy. However, the current literature shows that there is still a long distance to investigate new technologies or improve the previously proposed schemes to obtain the most practical and economical methods. The main aim of this Special Issue on “sustainable energy storage technologies with a focus on thermal energy storage” is to introduce technologies, which have high efficiency, low emission and cost.
In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Proposing high-efficient, low emission and cost-effective technologies of thermal energy storage, covering the types of sensible heat, latent heat and chemical reaction heat;
- New materials for thermal energy storage and the relevant performance and advantages;
- Performance investigations and optimization of the TES in different occasions, such as power generation, desalination, aeronautics and astronautics, evaporation and crystallization, and so on;
- New application schemes between the TES technologies and kinds of sustainable energy
- Energy conversion and heat & mass transfer in the TES technologies;
- Evaluating and improving the reliability and resiliency of TES technologies;
- Control strategy and algorithm for the TES technologies.
