This article concerns the choice of representative inflow statistics used in the scheduling of the hydro-dominated Chilean power system. It is well written and structured, and was easy to follow. Moreover, it provides important insight in the representation of inflow uncertainty in the scheduling models used in Chile. In my opinion, the article is relevant and interesting and fills a gap in the technical literature by shedding light on important information on the use of (official) scheduling models in Chile.

 

I have the following comments that I hope the authors will take the time to consider:

  1. Some places the style is a bit informal for a scientific paper. For example, I recommend modifying the phrase "plenty of evidence" on page 5.
  2. On page 7 it is stated that the ".., the AFC component is expected to continue in the future". Could you add a reference to support this statement?
  3. I recommend spending a few sentences early on to describe the granularity of the inflow model, as used in the scheduling model(s). Are there weekly or monthly decision stages? Is the inflow on daily/weekly/monthly time resolution? Please clarify this.
  4. The use of historical records in the scheduling is also the established approach in other hydro-dominated systems such as the Nordic. The benefit of using historical records as opposed to sampling from a statistical model is e.g. discussed in the reference below.

Fig. 2.- There are two parentheses to close the expression, (there should be one). 

Line 216 What does AFC mean? Maybe it should be written ACF. And the same in line 336

Line 246.- As shown in 5 : better As shown in Fig. 5
