The article is dedicated to an actual topic - analysis of environmental pollution with persistent pollution in an unique environment. The sampling of soil samples is outstanding. For analysis up-to-data methods are used with an adequate data treatment methods. The results and discussion part is based on experimental data, but are discussed in the context of recent research and regulatory documents. The conclusions reveal consequences of human presence in Antarctica. The study is of high quality, however minor suggestions could be provided:

  1. In Figure 3 it would be important to put error bars
  2. It is important more in details to explain which PAH s are heavy, which are ligth.

we have take into account, namely:

1) In Figures 3 and 4, the error bars has been added

2) 

2) A detailed explanation of which PAHs are heavy and which are light has been added in the Introduction.

Lines 34-39: PAHs are compounds composed of several condensed benzene rings with ben-zo[a]pyrene as the lead component. These are divided into "light" PAHs with two to four and "heavy" PAHs with five to six aromatic rings...

I was kindly asked to review the manuscript: The content of polyarenes in soils of Antarctica: variability across landscapes. This work aims at a primary study of the content and composition of PAHs in the soils of various polar Antarctic stations, determination of trends and causes of anthropogenic pollution of Antarctic soils and assessment of the levels of PAH accumulation in them. This information could be used and would be needed in e.g. in planning and implementation of action plans locally.

  1. Abstract: The abstract needs more of a ‘hook’ to engage the reader and establish the novelty of the analysis in the scientific literature.
  2. Could the authors provide more information on the control the validity of the results?
  3. Please, explain in the discussion the limitations of the work.

Overall, it is a solid article and, methodologically, it is well planned and fits within the journal's objectives.
