Lower-Body Power, Body Composition, Speed, and Agility Performance among Youth Soccer Players
Highlights
- The results of this study underline the detrimental effect of body fat percentage on sprints and change-in-direction performance.
- Age, body composition, and lower-body power could explain between 22% and 67% of the variance observed in sprints and change-in-direction performance.
- Coaches and their staff should consider including lower-body strength and power content when designing training programs for youth soccer players. On the other hand, the detrimental effects of body fat percentage might be mitigated through multidisciplinary approaches to youth soccer, particularly through nutrition guidelines.
