A Universal Phase Error Analysis for Optical Frequency Tuning Lasers Utilized in Fiber Sensing with OFDR
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
the optical sensing is a hot topic which attracts growing atteention. In this manuscript, the authors used various simulations and experiments . the results sounds good and it can inspire the researching directon of
OFDR systems for sensing . So I recommen it for publishing in your journal.
Author Response
The authors thanks for the suggestion of the reviewer.
Reviewer 2 Report
This work demonstrates and experimentally evaluates an optical frequency domain reflectometry (OFDR) fiber sensing system that directly simulate and judge the stability of the semiconductor laser for sensing applications, and such module has been proved by various parameters. Overall, this work is interesting and it may be interested to several researchers in this field. Therefore, the present manuscript can be recommended for publication in Photonics.
Author Response
To meet the requirement of the English style, the author asked the English Editing service from MDPI, and the manuscript has been revised.
Reviewer 3 Report
The paper is lack of innovation. The authors use large length to demonstrate some theory which has been known already. The introduction has not provide sufficient background especially about the previous work in this study. The paper does not meet the requirements for impact of the journal.
Author Response
The reviewer is correct that some principles introduced in this manuscript are already known by the researchers. However, it seems it is not attracted enough attention to analyze the laser performance in detail, and that's the reason why the authors utilize the phase error to describe such a phenomenon to inspire extra ideas on this issue.
As for the English writing part, the service has been completed by the MDPI.
Reviewer 4 Report
Dear authors,
your manuscript is so badly written that is incomprehensible in most parts of it. It is hard for an average reader to understand and also appreciate its significance. My advise is to consult an academic who speaks English so that he/she can advise you how to rewrite it in proper English!! You should also include in the beginning of you main body of your resumbitted manuscript a list of principal symbols and abbreviations.
Author Response
The authors appreciate the suggestion from the reviewer. It is the authors' duty to make the idea understandable to readers, and the English editing service provided by MDPI was selected to improve the manuscript.
Furthermore, to make the manuscript clear, there is a table that describes principal symbols and abbreviations in the revised version.
Round 2
Reviewer 4 Report
Dear authors,
well done this time. You have managed to write a paper which is clearly written, has scientific merit and will be of potential value to its readers. I have only two minor points to point out. Firstly, in one line before eqn.(10) the phrase "not huge" should be better written as "delay much greater than unity". And secondly, in the first line from top on page 8, what is the meaning of the "partitional relationship"? Do you mean that there is a logical and not necessarily a functional relation between the two variables mentioned there?
Author Response
The authors thank a lot for the reminder from the reviewer.
Firstly, to make the manuscript clear, the description has been modified in the revised manuscript;
Besides, it is a mistake made by the authors, the product of the tuning rate and control period is supposed to be constant, or the laser optical bandwidth. To make this part understandable, it has been modified in the revised manuscript.
