Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

This is an important review, Table 1 needs much better formatting, Table 3 needs different sections. You did not describe health supplements, some of them are just claims, others are only moderate recommendations. I would prefer to call vitamins, elements etc. "important food ingredients", and they should not be used as supplements.

The microbiota in the oral cavity are organized in many different microbiomes, and you can call them also as an oralom according to Yvonne Kapila.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The authors present a nice review of wound healing and factors influencing oral health in this manuscript.

There is a need for some English language editing of the manuscript.

Lines 201 mentions antihypertensive use in the elderly population and insinuates that it has impacts on wound healing, but does not explain or reference this. Please include the impacts of antihypertensives on wound healing as you understand them.

Lines 208-212 mention anticoagulant use and its contribution to bleeding and mortality risks, but nothing about its impact on wound healing whether orally or extra-orally. This should be included.

The opening of the manuscript should include a few sentences explaining why this is an important topic to be reviewed.

Comments on the Quality of English Language

Most of the English Language editing needed is related to details of past/present tense, single/pleural wording, and prepositions. The meaning of the content of the article is largely clear, but needs editing for ease and style of reading.

The topic of this paper is very current and certainly of interest to a wide audience. I read the review article with interest and found it well organized, clearly and comprehensively described.

The provided Tables are useful, in particular Table 3

Comments on the Quality of English Language

There are only a few grammatical errors, which can be corrected during the proofs editing
