Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The aim of this Special Issue is to update the readers with new knowledge about the diagnosis and treatment of periprosthetic joint and fracture-related infections and especially the antibiotic treatment of these infections.
Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) and fracture-related infection (FRI) are severe complications of joint replacement and trauma surgery. Some studies report PJI to be the most common cause for revision in the first five years following primary arthroplasty. The infection rate in revision arthroplasty is up to 12% and therefore even much higher. Because no test with an accuracy of 100% exists, the diagnosis of possible infection is still a challenge. Research in that field of interest is therefore important to improve the detection of these infections because the presence of a PJI and FRI would result in significant changes to the subsequent therapeutic procedures.
The treatment of PJI and FRI is under continuous development and new techniques (for example coatings of cementless implants and local antibiotic treatment) coming on the market soon. Moreover, local and systemic antibiotic application is a significant part of successful treatment.
Therefore, we are pleased to invite you to send papers with a topic in the field of diagnosis or treatment of PJI or FRI. Original articles or meta-analyses in the clinical field and basic research are welcome as well as review articles that summarize the newest knowledge in the field of that Special Issue.
We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Antibiotics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
