Dear Colleagues,
Energetic reliance on oil and gas causes relevant impacts on air quality and health due to the emissions caused by extraction and production processes, including oil spills, venting, flaring, pretreatment, refining, and leakages. Among others, short-lived climate pollutants such as black carbon, greenhouse gases (mainly methane), organic particles, and their gaseous precursors as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), sulfur compounds, and nitrogen oxides can be emitted at oil and gas processing plants, also contributing to the formation of secondary aerosol. Although locally produced, many of these contaminants can have regional and global effects, as it happens for oil refineries of the Arabian Gulf releasing significant concentrations of SO2, interacting with desert dust particles, thus modifying their radiative and microphysical properties. This is also the case of relevant flaring emissions of black carbon in Russia, influencing the Arctic climate system. Despite an extensive literature on gaseous emissions from oil/gas industry, few works have focused on particulate matter characterization. The main aim of this Special Issue is to collect and present results obtained by monitoring and characterizing aerosol emissions from Oil/Gas producing activities worldwide.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
