Dear Colleagues,

Recent advancements in neuroscience as well as information and communication technologies (ICT) have created new opportunities for understanding the brain. The integration of neuroscience and ICT has opened up new avenues for interdisciplinary research, offering unique insights into the complexities of the human brain. This Special Issue aims to explore the latest advances in this exciting field and showcase research that bridges neuroscience and ICT.

We welcome original research and review contributions on a range of topics related to this intersection, including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Neuroimaging techniques and their applications in ICT.
  • Machine learning approaches for brain data analyses.
  • Brain–computer interfaces.
  • Big data analytics and neuroscience.
  • Multimodal data integration for brain research.
  • Network analysis in neuroscience.
  • Novel visualization techniques for neuroscience data.
  • Ethical considerations in the use of ICT in neuroscience.

We are particularly interested in submissions that showcase cutting-edge research in these areas, including studies that utilize novel techniques or methodologies with which to study the brain.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Biology is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

The study of neuroarchitecture is concerned with the significant effects of architecture on human behavior, emotions and thought processes. This review explores the intricate relationship between the brain and perceived environments, focusing on the roles of the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) and parahippocampal place area (PPA) in processing architectural stimuli. It highlights the importance of mirror neurons in generating empathetic responses to our surroundings and discusses how architectural elements like lighting, color, and space layout significantly impact emotional and cognitive experiences. The review also presents insights into the concept of cognitive maps and spatial navigation, emphasizing the role of architecture in facilitating wayfinding and orientation. Additionally, it addresses how neuroarchitecture can be applied to enhance learning and healing environments, drawing upon principles from the Reggio Emilia approach and considerations for designing spaces for the elderly and those with cognitive impairments. Overall, this review offers a neuroscientific basis for understanding how human cognition, emotions, spatial navigation, and well-being are influenced by architectural design. Full article
