Dear Colleagues,
The biomarker is a biochemical index that can mark the changes or potential changes in the structure or function of organs, tissues, cells and subcellulars. It includes a variety of proteins/peptides, nucleic acids, small molecules, etc. Biomarkers are no doubt closely related to almost all physiological and pathological events in organisms. The detection and analysis of disease-related biomarkers is the key method to give warning at an early stage which is very important for early therapy. However, all of them, especially the specific portion associated with diseases, are at a low abundance and are surrounded by complex environments where there are a large number of high-abundance proteins and salts, leading to difficulties in direct analysis for them.
Bio-nanotechnology is currently at the stage of rapid development which extends the limits of current biomarker detection and molecular diagnostics, and enables point-of-care diagnostics, integration of diagnostics with therapeutics and development of personalized medicine. Although the potential diagnostic applications are unlimited, the most important current applications are foreseen in the areas of biomarker discovery, cancer diagnosis and detection of infectious microorganisms. Therefore, this Special Issue “Bio-Nanotechnology for Biomarker Analysis” focuses on recent advances in biomarker (proteins/peptides, nucleic acids, small molecules, etc.) detection, real-time analysis and integration of diagnosis and treatment using bio-nanotechnologies.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Biosensors is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
