Pediatric Oncology
A section of Cancers (ISSN 2072-6694).
Section Information
Pediatric tumors represent a largely unique and distinct group of tumors as compared to adult cancer, with some overlap in cancer types that occur in adolescents and young adults. In relation to the young patient age, etiology and pathogenesis are frequently completely different from adults, which is reflected in treatment. This patient group is usually treated in tertiary centers, with specialized diagnostic and therapeutic trajectories and increased attention for the long-term physical and psychosocial effects of treatment in survivors. In developing countries, efforts are directed at implementing diagnostic and treatment facilities and preventing treatment abandonment. Thus, the range of topics for the section of Cancers is wide. We encourage the submission of manuscripts which provide new and innovative diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in any medical discipline related to pediatric cancer, including those describing the psychological consequences for patients and their families. Systematic and perspective reviews are also welcome. Topics include, but are not limited to:
- Pediatric cancer surgery
- Innovative surgical techniques
- Imaging modalities in pediatric tumors
- Functional imaging and nuclear scans
- Radiotherapy
- Pediatric tumor pathology
- Molecular diagnostics
