Dear Colleagues,
ELISPOT is a technique of choice for the detection of spontaneous and antigen-induced secretion of cytokines (e.g. IFN-gamma, TNF-alpha, IL-2, IL-4, etc.) from peripheral blood lymphocytes. This assay is widely used for vaccine development, AIDS research, cancer research, infectious diseases monitoring, autoimmune disease studies, and allergy and transplantation research. Due to its unsurpassed sensitivity, the areas of ELISPOT application are rapidly growing and expanding into human and veterinary diagnostics, vaccine development, drug screening, and as a companion assay for high content screening. The growing number of publications attests towards the recognition that ELISPOT technique is an indispensable tool for both basic research and diagnostic studies and is strong evidence that this technique is a must-use tool in modern day biomedical research. Due to its inherent nature, ELISPOT is one of the most flexible assays and can be endlessly modified and adapted to particular experimental needs of the investigator. This Special Issue offers an Open Access forum at bringing together a collection of novel protocols, methods and techniques that can be shared among investigators from different laboratories. We encourage novices and experienced scientists to contribute research papers and reviews dedicated to analysis of secretion of novel cytokines, multiplex ELSIPOT techniques using chromogenic and fluorescence detection, statistical analysis, novel cell-treatment strategies, high-sensitivity detection protocols, T-cell and B-cell ELISPOT assays, vaccine development, diagnostics and drug discovery research. ELISPOT has enormous potential for development and expansion into new research areas and our goal is to help advancing in this direction.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Cells is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
