Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Climate change profoundly influences water resources management, necessitating thorough research on its impacts, adaptation strategies, and vulnerability assessments.

The coupling of climate change models with various specialized models, including hydrological models, models of hydropower simulation, agricultural models, and those assessing rivers' environmental flow, represents the forefront of research in basin-scale water management. As research progresses, particularly when expanding the scale to encompass international contexts, such as transboundary river basins, additional dimensions become critical in the comprehensive management of these shared waters.

This Special Issue focuses on highlighting the latest breakthroughs on climate change research regarding water resources across diverse geographical areas. This encompasses the application of cutting-edge methodologies and technologies to understand and address the evolving challenges. This Special Issue also aims at contributing valuable insights into climate change adaptation and mitigation measures and actions in order to proactively address future water demands with regard to transboundary cooperation.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Climate change and impacts on river, lake, and groundwater hydrology;
  • Climate change and impacts on terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems and their services;
  • Transboundary cooperation under the challenges of climate change;
  • Hydrological modelling challenges under climate change;
  • Coordinated management for adaptation under climate change at transboundary basins;
  • Adaptation measures, application of actions, and foreseen responses;
  • Sustainability of current or future hydraulic projects under climate change;
  • Integrated water resources management as a solution to climate change.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Climate is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
