Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Water is existential to life, and plays a large role in sustaining communities, economies, and societies. Its presence attracts and sustains, while its absence disperses and condemns. Communities require sources and systems that meet quantitative and quality needs for drinking or satisfying other requirements.
Given that the need for water is increasing day by day, as well as the fact that there are fewer and fewer sources of clean water, and more and more sources of polluted water, which is often contaminated with pollutants that are very dangerous for health, it can be concluded that water purification and giving useful value to once used water is crucial from both, the economic aspect and from the aspect of preserving natural resources and the environment. For that reason, the development of new materials and technologies that can be used for water purification is a key challenge today.
This Special Issue on “Development and Application of New, Advanced and Eco-friendly Materials for Water and Wastewater Treatment” aims to collect original high-quality articles that explore the full potential of new materials for purpose of applications in the area of environmental protection and water and wastewaters purification. The research areas include (but are not limited to) the following: novel materials development, material structural design and optimization, new technologies, mechanisms of pollutants removal, process modelling and simulation, and practical (industrial) applications. The main emphasis is on the materials which can be used to obtain the membranes, but also papers dealing with other methods and membrane technologies, engaged in water and wastewaters purification, such as adsorption, ion exchange, etc. are recommendable.
We are pleased to invite you to submit your latest research results. Both original research articles and reviews with new insights are welcome.
We are looking forward to your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Membranes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2200 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
