Dear Colleagues,
Remote sensing techniques, including Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), play a pivotal role in monitoring marine environments. GNSS-based remote sensing can provide precise measurements of sea surface height and currents, as well as the detection of targets in marine environments. SAR imagery offers high-resolution images of the marine environment, enabling the detection of different kinds of targets., such as ocean oil, ships, wakes, etc. Research into the scattering mechanisms and models of oceans and their targets, including ships, oil slicks, and even subtle features like wakes, elucidates how radar signals are scattered, reflected, and absorbed by these various elements. This understanding provides us a theoretical and computational framework for predicting and explaining how radar, microwave, and other electromagnetic signals interact with the ocean surface and the targets. Therefore, electromagnetic scattering modelling and simulation enable the prediction of radar echoes and images is crucial for target detection and information estimation in marine environments. By analyzing the scattering behavior of rough sea surfaces, researchers can develop more accurate algorithms for detecting and identifying objects on the ocean's surface. Additionally, the study of wakes and other subtle features can provide insights into ocean currents, wave propagation, and even biological activity.
The special issue aims to show the latest advancements in the utilization of electromagnetic scattering models for understanding and monitoring the ocean environment. The subject of this special issue is highly relevant to the scope of the Remote Sensing, which focuses on the development and application of remote sensing technologies for monitoring the Earth's surface and atmosphere. By focusing on the application of electromagnetic scattering models in ocean remote sensing, this special issue aims to contribute to the journal's mission by advancing the state-of-the-art in ocean remote sensing research and promoting the exchange of ideas and knowledge among researchers in this field.
