Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue aims to contribute to the sustainability literature by exploring the economic effects of sustainable tourism development. Sustainable tourism development is related to the environmental, economic, and sociocultural aspects, and a proper balance should be developed between these three dimensions to guarantee its long-term sustainability. Sustainability in tourism plays an important role for tourism planning and development. Tourism research has extensively analyzed tourism sustainability, but there is still a need to understand the economics aspects and consequences of sustainable tourism. Especially in the pandemic period, institutions, companies, regulatory bodies, and international organizations have now turned their gaze toward sustainability, which can emerge as a powerful tool from this highly uncertain period.
The United Nations set the 2030 Agenda for achieving Sustainable Development Goals for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. Sustainable tourism can contribute to this aim. Therefore, from a practical point of view, this Special Issue can also develop new knowledge that can support economic decision making and policy development of regulatory bodies and governments for achieving a more sustainable tourism sector.
This Special Issue is devoted to understanding and analyzing new trends and advancements in the economic aspects of sustainable tourism development. The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic attracted new challenges for all stakeholders of the tourism industry. Therefore, we welcome studies focusing on the role of the pandemic on sustainable tourism development and also future perspectives in the post-COVID-19 era. We look forward to receiving original (quantitative and/or qualitative) manuscripts on any topic related to the economic impacts of sustainable tourism development. Authors can analyze all segments of the tourism and hospitality field using micro and/or macro level data. In this framework, Special Issue topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- Economic impacts of sustainable tourism development;
