Topic Information

Dear Colleagues,

Energy storage solutions are crucial in coping with the growing global energy hunger generated by anthropogenic environmental changes and the demand for Big Data and Internet of Things. Hence, the need for higher performance supercapacitors and batteries required to store solar or wind energy is evolving. A high energy density is imperative, availed by high-performance electrode materials in batteries. By improving charge storage in embedded ions, nanostructured metal composites, including metal carbides, metal nitrides, metal organic frameworks, metal sulphides, and metal oxides, have triggered tremendous advancements in the electrode performance of supercapacitors and batteries. While the various classes of metal composites offer significant advantages in porosity, multifunctionality, and structural and chemical tunability, their respective technological bottlenecks may inhibit their practical application as suitable electrode materials for specific battery applications. More intensive research is, therefore, required to develop effective strategies for the various metal composites in battery technology. For this reason, we invite scientists, university researchers, and industry professionals to contribute to this Special Issue on “Applications of Metal Composites in Batteries” to galvanize a multidisciplinary framework tackling the science, technology, and the application of metal composites in batteries. Potential topics of interest may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Materials design;
  • Science and technology;
  • Materials characterization;
  • Structural defects and their control;
  • Fabrication and processing;
  • Modelling and simulations.
