Nanotechnological Advancement in Biopolymer Functionalization
Topic Information
Dear Colleagues,
The usage of petroleum-based polymers in various applications presents serious threats to the environment in terms of waste disposal, management and recycling. Additionally, these polymers have contributed significantly to emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases (GHGs). Therefore, in order to prevent the harmful effects of these synthetic polymers, the production, development and applications of bio-based polymers have been increased in recent years and is a major driver of research in this area. Furthermore, the advancement of nanotechnology in recent years has increased the functionality of these biopolymers in several areas, including drug delivery, food packaging, water treatment, biomedical applications, etc. The incorporation of nanoparticles in biopolymers improves their mechanical and barrier properties, leading to wider ranges of application in several sectors. The majority of polymer research is focused on the production and development of biopolymers and their nanocomposites for several applications. In view of this, the proposed Topic is mainly focused on the production and functionalization of biopolymers by nanoparticles for various application. In addition, this Special Issue also includes applications of nanoparticles in biopolymer production processes, the green synthesis nanoparticles and its use in biopolymer functionalization, biopolymer-based nanoparticles for drug delivery, nano-functionalized biopolymers for tissue engineering, etc. Relevant original research and review papers on diverse topics related to biopolymer-based nanocomposites are welcome.
