Comments on the paper “Approach for preservation and reconstruction of
two-dimensional wave spectra and its application to boundary  conditions in nested wave modelling by Xingjie Jiang   and Coauthors submitted for publication in Remote Sensing.

This paper proposes a new approach for preservation of a wave spectrum that can reduce the required number of storage units. This method potentially could help to support engineering projects.

First, the description of spectral partition (SP) technique is very poor. In Lines 118-121 it says only, that in each partition is only one spectral peak. If I will use this method, how I need to define: * peaks, * maximum (minimum) quantity of peaks,

 * area for each partition ?

The rest of the paper has no sense without clear description of such details.

Second. Authors also needs to clarify a possible application area for this method. For example, can this method be applied, if   observed spectra has 20 (100) peaks? How much storage units required in this case? Is it possible to make a plots:  1) number of storage units as a function of  number of partitions, 2) Mean absolute error as a function of  number of partitions (shown in table 8 for 3 and 6 partitions)?

In Lines 529-530 authors write “the use of no more
than four partitions to reconstruct a spectrum in this study is appropriate.” Is it means, that this method is limited to spectra with only 4 peaks? Than it needs to be clearly written in abstract.

In Line 230 authors apply criteria M0i < 6,25*10-6. Why? If I will use this method for another data, do I need to apply the same criteria?    Depends M0i  value on PSD amplitude of observed spectra?

Is the final partitioning and identification program available online? In will be nice, if authors put their routine in supplementary material.
