Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Biomimetics, or the imitation of nature’s models, systems, and elements to solve complex human problems, plays a significant role in medical diagnosis. Biomimetics transforms medical diagnoses by introducing innovative, sensitive, cost-effective diagnostic tools and methods. By learning from nature’s time-tested solutions, we can enhance the accuracy, efficiency, and accessibility of medical diagnostics, leading to better patient outcomes and advancing the field of medicine.

The proposed Special Issue concerning “Biomimetics in Medical Diagnosis” seeks to bring together pioneering research and advancements in biomimetics as applied to medical diagnostics. Biomimetics, the innovative science of emulating nature’s engineering principles, offers transformative potential in developing diagnostic tools and techniques that are more efficient, accurate, and patient-friendly. This Special Issue aims to present the latest developments, interdisciplinary collaborations, and practical applications of biomimetic principles in enhancing medical diagnostics. Key topics to be covered include designing and applying biomimetic sensors that mimic natural detection systems to achieve superior sensitivity and specificity in disease marker identification. Advances in imaging techniques inspired by the optical systems of insects and echolocation mechanisms in marine mammals will be explored, highlighting improvements in the clarity and detail of diagnostic images. The Issue will also delve into the creation of wearable diagnostic devices, inspired by the flexibility and responsiveness of biological skin, capable of real-time health monitoring and data transmission. Moreover, the application of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and bioinformatics will be covered.

Contributions will be drawn from a multidisciplinary pool of esteemed researchers in nanotechnology, materials science, biomedical engineering, and clinical medicine, whose expertise is crucial in shaping the future of biomimetics in medical diagnosis. By curating your cutting-edge research and fostering interdisciplinary dialogue, this Special Issue aims to catalyze further innovations and applications of biomimetic principles in medical diagnoses, ultimately enhancing disease detection and patient care outcomes.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Biomimetics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
