Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Sustainable urban development is fundamentally rooted in a deep understanding of our landscapes and the interplay between natural resources and urban infrastructure. Effectively managing spatial information is crucial for addressing the unique challenges cities face, including resource conservation, risk mitigation, and infrastructure maintenance, all while fostering societal well-being.

In this Special Issue, we will explore methodologies for urban mapping, management, and forecasting, as well as the historical evolution of cities. We are interested in various data sources for mapping and monitoring cities: 3D point clouds in addition to multispectral, mobile, and IoT sensors, including datasets acquired by wearable smart devices. We invite contributions that include critical reviews, innovative approaches, case studies, and prototypes that highlight both the advantages and challenges of utilizing spatial data.

We encourage research that examines various data sources—such as urban air quality assessments, environmental monitoring, and community engagement initiatives. Furthermore, we are particularly interested in discussing the implications of sharing this information with the public, considering the potential benefits for community involvement and citizen science, alongside the associated risks related to privacy and security.
