Upcoming MDPI Conferences (2)
Barcelona, Spain
We are thrilled to announce an international conference organized by Plants (ISSN: 2223-7747) to be held in Barcelona, Spain, from 31 March through 2 April 2025. This global event, under Plants 2025: From Seeds to Food Security, is significant, bringing together plant scientists worldwide to discuss and share their latest research and findings. The world population is expected to reach 9.7 billion by 2050, just 25 years from now. This calls for a more concerted effort by scientists to increase agricultural production to feed the growing population and maintain a sustainable agroecosystem while increasing crop yields and quality. In addition, preserving waterways from contamination due to the excessive use of agrochemicals (herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers) and maintaining and increasing forest cover are essential issues. This conference addresses these topics through keynote talks and seven different sessions for presenting innovation and prospects for the future.
We will have seven main themes at this conference, where presenters can make their scientific discoveries known:
- Session 1: Plant responses to abiotic stress and climate change;
- Session 2: Plant–microbe interactions;
- Session 3: Emerging technologies in plant health;
- Session 4: Emerging technologies in plant breeding;
- Session 5: Emerging technologies in biotechnology and molecular research;
- Session 6: Seed technologies and seed enhancement;
- Session 7: Plant nutrition.
The conference organizers look forward to having experts in the field deliver keynote talks and invite other experts, postdoctoral scientists, graduate students, and anyone interested in plant research and innovation to attend this conference.
The conference will be held in Barcelona, a picturesque city where scientists from around the world can unwind and enjoy Spanish culture, food and the seaside. We, the conference chairs, look forward to welcoming you to Plants 2025.

Upcoming Partner Conferences (2)
La Residencia de la UAM La Cristalera, Miraflores de la Sierra, Madrid
The “I International Emerging Crops Symposium (IECS)—NutriCrop Network: Exploring the Role of Artificial Intelligence in Agricultural Innovation” aims to provide an international forum for discussion and collaboration in the field of emerging crops. The symposium will bring together researchers, industry experts, and professionals from the agri-food and health sectors related to emerging crops. This event will open with a plenary session dedicated to the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the agri-food sector, followed by six thematic sessions focused on agronomy, nutrition, and biomedicine.
The symposium's goal is to promote the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and interests between public entities (research centers, universities, and non-profit organizations) and private entities (companies and organizations such as farmer cooperatives) regarding the potential of underutilized crops. These emerging crops are crucial for diversifying our agri-food system, creating a more resilient system in the face of climate change, and enhancing global food security.
The IECS will serve as a platform to showcase the innovative applications of AI in agriculture, particularly in the context of underutilized or emerging crops. These crops, which are often overlooked in conventional agriculture, have the potential to provide sustainable alternatives to current agricultural practices. The event will emphasize how AI can enhance productivity, improve crop management, and contribute to sustainable agricultural practices that are both environmentally friendly and capable of addressing future food security challenges.
Key Objectives of the Symposium:
- Facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration: by bringing together experts from different sectors (agriculture, nutrition, and biomedicine), the symposium aims to foster interdisciplinary research and collaboration to address the challenges and opportunities posed by emerging crops.
- Highlighting AI-driven innovations: The plenary session on AI will set the tone for how technology, particularly AI, is transforming agriculture. This session will explore AI’s role in precision farming, crop prediction, pest management, and resource optimization, showcasing successful case studies of AI applications.
- Exploring emerging crops’ potential: The six sessions will delve into the agronomic, nutritional, and biomedical benefits of emerging crops. These crops could be key to solving nutritional deficiencies, contributing to medical research, and creating crops resilient to harsh environmental conditions.
- Public–private sector collaboration: The symposium will focus on bridging the gap between academic research and commercial agricultural practices. Discussions will encourage partnerships between research institutions and private companies, cooperatives, and industries involved in emerging crop cultivation and commercialization.
- Building resilient agri-food systems: By exploring the resilience of underutilized crops, participants will discuss how these species can enhance the adaptability of agricultural systems to climate change. These crops may help mitigate the risks of environmental stressors such as drought, soil degradation, and fluctuating temperatures, all while contributing to food security in vulnerable regions.
- Knowledge sharing and capacity building: the symposium will offer workshops and interactive sessions to share practical knowledge, focusing on new cultivation techniques, post-harvest management, and commercialization strategies for emerging crops, particularly in underdeveloped regions.
In sum, the IECS aims to be a transformational event that leverages the power of AI and cross-sector collaboration to explore the future potential of emerging crops in agriculture. The inclusion of these crops can not only foster biodiversity and sustainability, but also address global challenges such as climate change and food security.
Norfolk, VA, USA
We invite you to join the Society for In Vitro Biology (SIVB) as we return to the Mermaid City, Norfolk, Virginia, for a one-of-a-kind experience. Join us from June 7 to 10, 2025, for this exceptional scientific program addressing both the latest developments in and core fundamentals of in vitro plant and animal biotechnology and genomics. Plenary sessions will focus on environmental risk assessment of genetically engineered organisms, the use of artificial intelligence in applied research, and engineering organisms for extreme environments. The program begins with a full day of workshops on Saturday, June 7, 2025, addressing tissue media formulation, fundamentals of modular cloning, and risk assessment. This is an opportunity to build professional relationships through conversations with leading experts in a casual atmosphere, to present your research and receive feedback from some of the most respected names in the field, and to network and make new connections with your peers from around the world.
We are also pleased to share that S. Eliza Lockwood, MD, FACMT, Medical Affairs Lead, Sr. Science Fellow at Bayer U.S. – Crop Science, will be the Keynote Speaker at the 2025 Meeting. An emergency medicine physician and medical toxicologist with a long-standing interest in global health, Dr. Lockwood has become increasingly involved with global health and humanitarian relief projects. She organized a relief mission to Haiti after the 2010 earthquake, started the Scholar Track in Global Health for the Washington University Div. of Emergency Medicine, and was one of the Global Health Scholars for the Dept. of Internal Medicine. Dr. Lockwood began to realize that to have a sustainable impact in global health, she needed to find creative ways of addressing malnutrition and insect-borne illness, two of the most commonly encountered public health problems in developing countries. She started working as the Medical Affairs Lead for Bayer, a global seed and chemical company with innovative technology that has great potential to remediate malnutrition. Her June 8th keynote talk will be on “One Health: From Plague 0and Pestilence to Pharmaceuticals, Pesticides and Public Health”.
