Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Biostimulants play a significant role in enhancing plant stress tolerance. These substances and microorganisms, when applied to plants or soils, stimulate natural processes to improve nutrient uptake, efficiency, and plant health. Biostimulants contribute to plant stress tolerance through multiple mechanisms such as by improving nutrient and water uptake, by stimulating beneficial hormonal activity, and by inducing stress-related genes. Their application in agriculture can create more resilient crops capable of withstanding various environmental challenges.

Recent advancements in research on biostimulants have introduced new types of them such as microbial inoculants, protein hydrolysates, and seaweed extracts. These can be applied in various forms, including foliar sprays, soil amendments, and seed treatments. Biostimulants affect both the aboveground and belowground parts of plants, enhancing root development, nutrient uptake, and stress tolerance. Their interaction with environmental factors such as soil type, climate, and crop species is crucial for optimizing their effectiveness. Proper application methods and doses are essential to maximize their benefits, thereby ensuring that biostimulants contribute effectively to sustainable agricultural practices.
