Reviewer 1 Report (Previous Reviewer 2)

The revised article can be accepted now

Author Response

We thank Reviewer 1 for approving our article for acceptance.

Reviewer 2 Report (New Reviewer)

The current study Palladium catalysts were obtained by the adsorption method involving sequential deposition of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and then palladium ions on a modified zinc oxide surface  without high-temperature calcination and reduction stages. Catalysts characterization and catalytic activity were extensively studied. I recommend the acceptance after minor revision

1. Introduction: there are other references using Pdsupported natural polymerslike chitosan published at Catalysts. e.g 10.3390/catal12091000.

Please revise the introduction and add the necessary relevant references for better rationality.

2. Deconvolution of XPS data is necessary to show the different oxidation states in a quantitative measures.

3. figures need to be polished and spell check is necessary.

Reviewer 3 Report (New Reviewer)

-Keywords are the words that best express the main content of the article, requiring refinement and accuracy. Please refine and confirm the keywords.

-In Table 2 (BET study), Why the surface area is reduced (0.5%Pd-PVP/ZnO; 5.9) after incorporation of PVP into (0.5%Pd/ZnO; 9.3) ? What are the main reasons for that? If it reduced the surface area, why author used this composite in their work? Author should explained this issue in their paper.

-Before the preparation of Pd-PVP/ZnO catalysts, the authors should add the description about the treatment of the Pd.

-Author needs to de-convolute the XPS analysis for all elements (Pd, C, O, Zn) of Pd-PVP/ZnO catalyst.

-The place of procurement of chemicals/equipment must be mentioned.

-The introduction should be clarified in term of uniqueness and advantage what is the novelty of this work over the previous related work. The details of introduction as well as results and discussion in this manuscript should discuss some important literatures.

-Define all acronyms on first use in the abstract and again in the body of the manuscript.

- Hydrogenation of 3,7,11-trimethyldodecyne-1-ol-3 needs to compared and verify with each composition alone such as Pd, PVP, ZnO with Pd-PVP/ZnO in their results.

-Why the authors think about using this method? What is new? What is the aim of this work?

-The figure captions are incomplete. It should be possible to understand the figure without referring to the text.

-Further exploration is needed for each figure in the selection of experimental conditions.

-The characterization on the structure, orientation, molecular arrangement, and performance of catalyst is credible. These parameters are must be focused in the text.

-Barring a few sentences in the text, the English language is fair. However, the text is not free from grammar errors. Ensure that your English manuscript is guaranteed free of language issues.

Reviewer 2 Report

The article entitled “Effect of polymer matrix on catalytic properties of the sup-ported palladium complexes in hydrogenation of alkynols” has been reviewed. In this article, the authors report a new heterogeneous catalyst by the impregnation of Pd particles into polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) carrier. The catalysts were tested in the hydrogenation of some C=C containing chemicals and showed good performance. The subject is interesting, article is well written and can be considered for publication after a revision as below:

1-      The article is recommended to be edited by a English language editor. There are several grammatical mistakes.

2-      There are recent publications in the same subject that was not reviewed by the authors. It is recommended the authors compare the efficiency of their designed catalyst with the ones reported at the following publication:

https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jpcs.2022.110611

3-      How the catalysts activity was measured? Explain it.

4-      Are the authors ensured about the heterogeneous nature of the catalysts during hydrogenation? How much was Pd leaching during the experiments performed in the recyclability test (Figure 7)?
