Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The manuscript by Ahmad and colleagues entitled "Bergenin from Bergenia species produce cardioprotective response against isoproterenol-induced myocardial infarction in rats" describe the cardioprotective effects of bergenin on isoproterenol-induced myocardial infarction in rats.  The research is quite interesting, however some revisions are necessary on figures : standardize the size of the figure and text of the captions.

Reviewer 2 Report

I reviewed the manuscript entitled, Bergenin from Bergenia species produce cardioprotective response against isoproterenol-induced myocardial infarction in rats. Originality of the work is satisfactory. The authors summarized the findings clearly and made an appropriate and robust discussion along with suitable literature comparison.

1.        Introduction should provide full details info on research gap and need of conducting this study with clear research objectives.

2.        Article has been well written although Conclusion need to be updated with study findings and future recommendations

3.        Are authors conducted any previous preliminary studies on bergenin against the isoproterenol in vitro studies? How do authors directly work on rats?

4.        Very few experiments

5.        Figures are well presented

6.        Line 105: tuckey should be Tuckey

7.        References are not according to journal format

GENERAL COMMENTS

The present study has been designed to evaluate the cardioprotective activity of bergenin in isoproterenol-induced myocardial damage in rats.

The interest in this manuscript is significant enough to merit publication.

My recommendation on submitted manuscript to the processes is to be accepted after major revisions.

The comments and questions provided below may help the authors to put the manuscript into better appropriate form for publication.

SPECIFIC COMMENTS

“Many medicinal plants and its phytochemical constituents have been investigated and reported for cardioprotective activity 40 through different signaling pathways” a single study? (Khan and Gilani, 2015).

-The study is original enough to contribute to science, but the introduction, discussion and conclusion part were insufficient for me.

-the fiction was insufficient, the previous studies were not sufficiently included in the discussions.

-What kind of changes does "bergenin" cause in cells, physiologically it would be more meaningful and contributing to the discussion.
