Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This is a fine review paper covering CO2 derivatives of molecular tin compounds (hemicarbonato and carbonato complexes). I suggest acceptance, the only remark is that the version and year of the used CCDC database should be added as reference - this could be done at proof stage.

Author Response

Dear Reviewer 1,

First of all, thank you for your favorable evaluation.

Regarding the CCDC version, I used WebCSD, the online portal of the Cambridge Structural Database. This was clarified in the revised manuscript (lines 60 and 61, page 2) and the associated reference was inserted in line 548 (page 25) .

Best regards,

LP

Reviewer 2 Report

As also indicated by the author this ms focuses on organotin compounds bearing hemicarbonate and carbonate ligands structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.

The english is not so fine as requested. A conclusion section could better address the reasons for which the review has been proposed? There are some important trends, some suggestion to potential authors and researchers in the fields. Also application of the species reported are not well described. The number of examples and compounds reported is not so high. It seems from the title that other ms are in preparation. They can be merged in a more significant paper?

Author Response

Dear Reviewer 2,

First of all thank you for your evaluation.

On your advice, I have endeavored to complement the conclusion of the manuscript.

Regarding the outlines of this review, I mainly focused on hemicarbonates and carbonate derivatives because my research activities relate precisely to these compounds. The number of structures (26 in total) and their diversity seemed favorable to writing a concise but sufficiently detailed and instructive article (currently 28 pages, 64 references). However, during the bibliographical preparation of the manuscript, I realized that the field of CO2 derivatives of molecular compounds of tin could be extended to other compounds (carbamate, formate ...) which would also deserve to be described in a same article. This is why I envisage a part II to this work.

I hope this has addressed your concerns.

Best regards,

LP

Reviewer 3 Report

This is a review, which analyse the formation of tin compounds bearing hemicarbonato and carbonato ligands and describe their structural features. In my opinion, it´s an interesting review of relevance in the area of organometallic chemistry.

I just have some comments, which might be addressed:

1.       Page 2. Line 73: I think Paragraph 3  should be replace by Section 3.2

2.       Page 8. Equation 5. Check the two figures of ntb, I think a NH is missing in the structures

3.       Page 9. Line 259. In the sentence “…comparable to 9, bounded to three…” I think the author meant “comparable to 11” since there is not an X-ray characterization of compound 9 and compound 11 is the one which has a carbonato in a central position.

4.       Page 14. The authors have written the following formulas for compound 19 and 20: [(t-Bu2Sn)O(OH)3]CO3·3MeOH and [(t-Bu2Sn)O(OH)3]CO3·3H2O·acetone. However, based on the Figure 10 and reference 50, in my opinion these formulas are not right.

5.       The number of the last pages are missing in some references: for example 10, 11, 14…

Author Response

Dear Reviewer 3,

First of all, thank you for your favorable evaluation and for your corrections.

Regarding your comments:

#1Page 2. Line 73: I think Paragraph 3  should be replace by Section 3.2

The modification has been made.

#2. Page 8. Equation 5. Check the two figures of ntb, I think a NH is missing in the structures.

That's right. The two figures have been modified.

#3. Page 9. Line 259. In the sentence “…comparable to 9, bounded to three…” I think the author meant “comparable to 11” since there is not an X-ray characterization of compound 9 and compound 11 is the one which has a carbonato in a central position.

That's right. The correction has been made.

That's right. The formulas of compounds 19 and 20 were wrong. They have been modified (in the text and in tables 5 & 6) by [(t-Bu2Sn)3O(OH)2]CO3·3MeOH and  [(t-Bu2Sn) 3O(OH)2]CO3·3H2O·acetone, respectively.

#5. The number of the last pages are missing in some references: for example 10, 11, 14…

References 10, 11, 15 and 49 (new numbering) have been completed as requested.

Best regards,

LP

Round 2

Reviewer 2 Report

It is clear that not significant changes have been made to the ms. However, taking into consideration that a part II will be written I suggest now to accept the ms in this form
