Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This review summarizes the data on the synthesis, structure and properties of pyridine complexes of AgXO4 (X = Cl, Mn and Re) compounds with various compositions ([Agpy2] XO4, [Agpy2] XO4.0.5py, [Agpy4] XO4 and 4 [Agpy2XO4]. [Agpy4] XO4). Considering the high utility of permanganate complexes in organic chemistry as mild and selective oxidants, and also the fact that the literature references about these compounds contain contradictory or incorrect information, this work is of undoubted interest.

The overview contains the following chapters:

  1. Synthesis and composition of [Agpyn]XO4 (X=Mn, Cl and Re) complexes.

2.1. Pyridine complexes of silver permanganate.

2.2. Pyridine complexes of silver perchlorate.

2.3. Pyridine complexes of silver perrhenate

  1. Thermal analysis of pyridine complexes of AgXO4 compounds (X= Mn, Cl and Re)

3.1. Pyridine complexes of AgMnO4

3.2. Pyridine complexes of AgClO4

  1. Crystallographic structure of pyridine complexes of AgXO4 compounds (X= Mn, Cl and Re)
  2. Spectroscopic properties of pyridine complexes of AgXO4 compounds (X= MnO4, ClO4 and ReO4)

5.1. Infrared and Raman Spectra

  1. Organic oxidation reactions with pyridine silver permanganate complexes

The review can be published in the journal, since generalization of the literature devoted to the study of the synthesis, structure, and properties of pyridine complexes of AgXO4 compounds (X = Cl, Mn, and Re) is an important task, since these complexes are widely used as mild and selective oxidants in organic chemistry. There are the following small comments:

- The third chapter of the review is entitled “3. Thermal analysis of pyridine complexes of AgXO4 compounds (X = Mn, Cl and Re)”. The authors describe thermal analysis of pyridine complexes of AgXO4 compounds (X = Mn, Cl). However, this chapter does not say anything about pyridine complexes of silver perrhenate - compound AgXO4 (X = Re)? If nothing is known in the literature about the thermal analysis of pyridine complexes of silver perrhenate, then this must be said. (position 157) - Pp. 6.

- In the title of chapter «5. Spectroscopic properties of pyridine complexes of compounds AgXO4 (X = MnO4, 262 ClO4 and ReO4)" X = Mn, Cl and Re, but not "X = MnO4, ClO4 and ReO4"? (position 262 - Pp. 11). The same is written in the title of the table "Table 2. Crystallographic parameters of Ag-Py-XO4 (X = MnO4, ClO4 and ReO4)"? (position 234 - Pp. 8). It is necessary to replace "(X = MnO4, ClO4 and ReO4)" with

"(X = Mn, Cl and Re)".

- The review lacks the chapter “Conclusions and Future Prospects”. It would be much better if the chapter “Conclusions and Future Prospects” was added to the “overview”. Where in a brief form the main conclusions and prospects of the studied problem are presented.

Author Response

We would like to express our thanks for the reviewers for careful evaluation of our manuscript (inorganics-1438644) and giving pieces of advice to improve that. These are incorporated into the manuscript, according to the next:

Reviewer 2 Report

The manuscript 1438644 “Pyridinesilver tetraoxometallate complexes: overview of the synthesis, structure and properties of pyridine complexed AgXO4 (X=Cl, Mn, Re) compounds” by Fernanda Paiva Franguelli, Kende Attila Béres, Laszló Kótai reviews the known up to date studies devoted to the silver-pyridine complexes containing tetrahedral anions: ClO4, MnO4 and ReO4.

Unfortunately, the text of the manuscript is far to be perfect. The introduction is perceived with difficulty, since the sentences are composed in a very peculiar way. The material of the article is also very difficult to read due to the chemical formulas formatting. For example [Agpy4]MnO4.4[Agpy2]MnO4 instead of [AgPy4]MnO4·4[AgPy2]MnO4, or for the compounds 3a-c [Agpy2]MO4.0.5py - [AgPy2(MO4)]·0.5Py. This presentation of the formula for compounds 3 would be more correct, since the tetra-oxo-anion is included in the coordination sphere.

It is not clear why in figure 2 the two corners of the triangle are designated as W and S.

In Tables 2 and 3, it is better to add the abbreviated compound code just near the empirical formula.

The authors do not analyze the Ag-O distances and the presence of π stacking in any of the compounds under consideration.

A huge drawback is that the review does not contain a "conclusion" section, which includes generalizations and prospects for the development of this area of research. Please, also give few phrases at the end of each subsection to summarize it content.

The weakest aspect of the manuscript is English.

The authors use the only tense for the past, since they do not feel which verb tense and in which voice should be used in each specific case. It is strongly recommended that after editing the text, the authors will ask an Anglophone colleague to check the new version of the article.

More details can be found directly in the manuscript pdf-file. Unsuccessful, difficult to understand phrases as well as the verbs (but not all) used in an incorrect (for the sentence context) tense are simply highlighted in yellow.

The text has been revised according to the reviewer's suggestions.

It is not clear why in figure 2 the two corners of the triangle are designated as W and S.

The explanation of labels has been inserted. W is water, S is salt.

Some sentences are inserted about them.

Thank you for sending the marked pdf. We revised the English of the text.

Round 2

Reviewer 2 Report

The authors have done "work on the bugs", but unfortunately they did not highlight all the corrections they made. This makes it difficult to review the second version of the manuscript. Also, the authors still avoid using perfect tenses.
