Dear Colleagues,
Electromagnetic (EM) modeling is a powerful tool that supports the design of novel power electronics systems (PES) used in a wide range of electrical engineering applications. Commonly investigated aspects are related with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) issues. EM simulations effectively extract quantities that are difficult to evaluate experimentally, such as parasitic inductances, capacitances, and equivalent resistance. This capability enables the use of coupled electromagnetic-circuit models for the design optimization of PES before manufacturing.
An open problem, of great interest for the design of PES, concerns the evaluation of EM losses, e.g., winding losses and core losses. Magnetic components, such as inductors and transformers, are fundamental in power converters and have a significant impact on design. This aspect remains a challenge in view of reducing the overall dimensions of future PES. Finally, thermal modeling plays a crucial role and is closely connected to these considerations.
We are pleased to announce a Special Issue dedicated to the importance of EM analysis for PES modeling. This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate cutting-edge research and advancements in this field. We invite submissions on a variety of topics related to EM modeling for PES.
Topics of interest include but, are not limited to, the following:
- Numerical methods such as the finite element method (FEM) and integral equation method (IEM);
- EM macromodeling;
- Thermal modeling;
- Parameters extraction (R, L, C) for the synthesis of equivalent electric circuits;
- EM losses modeling;
- Inductors and transformers.

Manuscript Submission Information

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
