Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Achieving fast muscle recovery in order to continue exercising is one of the top priorities of any active and athletic populations, especially when the intensity of the exercise has been high or very traumatic. An inadequate recovery may cause fatigue that if not resolved quickly can affect both the performance and health of the exercise practitioner. Therefore, it is very important to know the strategies of muscle recovery that are available. Among them, nutrition plays a very important role. From the dietary-nutritional point of view, there is no doubt about the recovery of muscle glycogen, protein synthesis, and adequate rehydration will be essential for integral athlete recovery. In this sense, knowing the quality, quantity, and timing of the intake of food, nutritional supplements, and liquids is of paramount importance for muscle recovery.
The articles in this Special Issue will highlight the role of diet and/or nutritional or hydration strategies, as well as nutritional supplements that could favor muscle recovery in order to improve health and performance, avoiding fatigue in active and athletic populations.
Potential topics may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Amino acid and/or protein intake
- Carbohydrates intake
- Fatty acids and fats intake
- Nutrients timing
- Hydration
- Natural products
- Nutritional supplements
- Dietary strategies
