Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The aim of the present Issue is to summarize recent developments in Dietary Interventions for Cardiovascular Risk Reduction. More specifically, the impact of the Mediterranean diet on the management of type 2 diabetes will be discussed. Accumulating data suggest that the Mediterranean diet is effective in alleviating insulin resistance and reducing the risk of developing metabolic syndrome, prediabetes, and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Personalized dietary interventions for weight loss will also be addressed in this Special Issue. Both genetic and environmental factors play a role in the efficacy of different diets, and elucidating the determinants of weight loss will result in more effective dietary interventions. Another topic that will be reviewed in this Special Issue is dietary patterns associated with weight loss maintenance. It is becoming clear that the maintenance of weight loss following a diet is difficult, and the development of strategies to achieve this goal acquires increasing importance. Finally, even though dietary habits affect the risk of ischemic stroke, it is still unclear whether they also modify ischemic stroke severity and outcome. Emerging knowledge on this topic will also be discussed.
